Em seu primeiro trabalho no cinema, Maria retrata uma traficante que se torna uma liderança na favela da Rocinha durante os anos 1980. Com a atuação, a atriz consolida ainda mais a sua posição como uma das artistas mais promissoras e completas da geração no cenário artístico brasileiro.
